The Lab Schools’ Calendar provides handy information on what is happening at the schools. Anyone can view events, add a new event, or modify events that they have added. However, parents are encouraged to submit their event details [name and phone number of the person to contact regarding the event, the title, location, description of the event including as much detail as possible, and the start and ending date/time] to the PA Communications Coordinator at parents@ucls.uchicago.edu, for inclusion in the calendar. The calendar’s administrator reviews, approves, and then enables events to be displayed on the calendar. A link to instructions for using the calendar is included on the “small calendar & day” view of the calendar.
The calendar is accessible from the PA homepage as well as the Lab Schools’ homepage. When accessed from the PA homepage, by clicking the “PA Calendar” link, a full month calendar that shows only PA sponsored events is displayed. To see the list of the current day’s events (if there are events scheduled for the day - “small calendar day view”) click on the “Back to Day View” link. When the calendar is accessed from the Lab Schools homepage, by clicking on the “All-Schools Calendar” link under “Find it Fast”, the list of the current day’s events (if there are events scheduled for the day) for the entire school, along with a small current month calendar, is displayed. The “full month view” can be displayed by clicking on the “View ALL events for the month” link.
The calendar can be configured to show the month and any combination of categories (“All Events”, “Admissions”, “After School”, “Alumni Development”, “Athletics”, “Guidance”, “Lower School”, “Middle School”, “High School”, “N/K”, “and Parents’ Association”). To configure your view of the calendar, go to the "View Event By Category & By Month" pull-down menus, located at the top of the main calendar page, and choose a category. To choose more than one category, hold down the control key (Ctrl) and use the left mouse button to select the desired categories, then click “GO”. The list of events for the selected categories for the selected day will then be displayed. Again, the “full month view” can be displayed by clicking on the “View ALL events for the month” link. Here is an example that shows the entire month of October’s events for the categories Middle School and Parents’ Association: https://events.uchicago.edu/labschool/monthview.phtml?Catref=|668|675|
This view has a link back to the “Day View” and a link to a printable version of the full month calendar, so that users can print the full month of their chosen categories at their leisure.
If you haven’t already accessed the calendar, try it. Send any questions, or comments about the PA website, or report any problems with the PA website, to parents@ucls.uchicago.edu. Questions or comments about the Lab Schools website can be submitted through the comments form, accessed via the “Comments” link located in the tool bar on the homepage.
Fifth Grade Note Cards make terrific holiday gifts, greeting cards, thank you notes, for family, friends and business associates. Continuing this exciting tradition for the eighth consecutive year, the Laboratory Schools' own unique note cards, featuring work completed last spring by Philip Matsikas' fifth grade Fine Arts students (our current sixth graders), are now available to the community. Each student artist selected a favorite painting from the history of art and reproduced it, in miniature, as a watercolor painting. All 111 art works have been professionally printed on quality card stock, and the cards are being sold for $25 per set in assorted sets of a dozen with matching envelopes. For every four sets purchased, a fifth free set is included. All profits benefit the Laboratory Schools.
Order forms are available in the Middle School office and Blaine Lobby, and you can request an electronic order form by emailing Melissa Cook at phoeberosewater@yahoo.com. For additional information, contact co-chairs Dina Chiampas (773-373-4557), Melissa Cook (773-684-5239) or Linda Hanessian (773-493-1444).
If you have already placed an order, deliveries are scheduled to start the week of October 11. If you have questions about whether we received your order, please contact Melissa Cook by e-mail or phone.
Special note to 7th grade parents:
It is not too late to place orders for the 2003 series of cards produced by your child's class, including custom sets of your child's work, while supplies last. Contact Melissa Cook for further information.
