Planning for Connections 2005 – Reflections of Lab, has gotten off to a
rousing start with a kick-off meeting that included a message from Director Magill about Lab’s
new philanthropy philosophy. Changes for this year’s event, along with the goals and objectives
for Connections 2005 were presented. This year the event will take place on March 5 at the River
East Art Center, 435 E. Illinois Street. Proceeds will benefit the Professional Development Fund
for Lab Schools teachers.
The committees: Auction, Classroom Projects Auction, Underwriting, Publicity/communications,
Volunteer Coordination, Raffle Ticket, and Student Performance, were established. A break-out
session for each of the committees was held. Help is still needed on the various committees,
with the Underwriting committee having the most need. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up by
contacting co-chairs Kelly Moran or Carol Kamin at
Connections2005@hotmail.com.
Volunteer opportunities are still available. If you have not already done so, please take a
moment to fill out a PA
Volunteer Form. You can also trial our new e-volunteer form.
Fifth Grade Note Cards – a Lab Schools tradition for eight years and counting ---- are now
available! Featuring work completed last spring by Philip Matsikas’ fifth grade Fine Arts
students, the cards make terrific holiday gifts, greeting cards and thank you notes. Each student
artist selected a favorite painting and reproduced it, in miniature, as a watercolor painting.
All 111 art works have been professionally printed on quality card stock, and the cards are being
sold for $25 per set in assorted sets of a dozen with matching envelopes. For every four sets
purchased, a fifth free set is included. All profits benefit the Laboratory Schools.
Order forms are available in the Middle School office and Blaine Lobby, and you can request an
electronic order form by emailing Melissa Cook at
phoeberosewater@yahoo.com. For additional information, contact co-chairs Dina Chiampas
(773-373-4557), Melissa Cook (773-684-5239) or Linda Hanessian (773-493-1444).
For those who have already placed an order, we apologize for a delay in the cashing of some of
your checks to enable the clean and separate accounting of the 2003 and 2004 series. If you have
questions about whether we received your order, please contact Melissa Cook by e-mail or phone.
Special note to 7th grade parents:
It is not too late to place orders for the 2003 series of cards produced by your child's class,
including custom sets of your child's work, while supplies last. Contact Melissa Cook for
further information.
