From the inaugural family fun/run, to the carnival, to storytelling, to the Multi-Cultural stage, to the Global Cafe, there will be something for everyone at this year’s Rites of May festival. Co-Chairs Kate Surmeier and Debbie Chizewer are planning to involve students from all of the schools. Twelve nations will be represented at country booths at the International Festival with seven of the booths being managed by Middle School students. The Multi-Cultural stage will showcase a variety of dance and musical genres as well as athletic exhibitions, all performed by students from nursery through high school.

This year, an on-line volunteer system for Rites of May is available. Rites of May Entertainment Coordinator Nila Barnes, developed and donated the system to facilitate more efficient volunteer registration and coordination. The new Volunteer system can be accessed from the Rites of May homepage .

This year’s Rites of May promises to be memorable and enjoyable for all.

Used textbook buy-back is coming! Turn in used books on from June 3 through June 10. (The Lab Bookstore will be open the day after school ends to accommodate students who clean out their lockers that day.) High School books are in great demand! Returning students will receive vouchers. Non-returning students with no siblings in grades six through 12 in 2005-06 will receive cash for their books. Vouchers, which will save you money on used books or new books and supplies from the bookstore, are good thru Oct. 31, 2005. So watch for the list of eligible books. For more information, contact Suzanne Beatus .

In addition, buy-back volunteers are needed for book sorting (on June 14), voucher mailing (two evenings in July) and for the used book sale. Volunteers have the advantage of getting first pick of used books before the sale is open to the public! To help, sign-up online or contact at Jean Doherty-Greenberg .

The on-line form to report health, safety and environmental concerns at the Laboratory Schools is now available. Nila Barnes has provided the facility so that parents can complete the form on-line and submit it. The completed report is automatically sent to the school safety administrator.    You can access the on-line health and safety report form, from the PA Administrative Forms page.

Mr. Magill is committed to improving our school's environment and we need your input to make that happen. While the form is the preferred method of informing the school that an unhealthy or unsafe condition exists, if you do not have computer access, we encourage you to report your concern to the appropriate school principal.

The committee is working closely with the administration and as part of the Tools for Schools team, to improve the environment at Lab School and welcomes your input. If you have any questions please contact any of the Air Quality Committee members: Mumtaz Champsi, Arlene Mays-Johnson or Craig Schuttenberg.

Thanks to all parents and students who continue to clip and save Box Tops for our school. We submitted 3,400 Box Tops, plus two bonus coupons and raised $341 for Lab. This is great but we CAN do better. We are averaging slightly more than three Box Tops per Lab family over a five-month period. So collect those Box Tops labels on the packaging for cereal fruit snacks, yogurt and cupcakes! If we can achieve 100% participation, we can generate up to $20,000 annually for Lab!

Double your earnings during Double Donation Days! Mother's Day is May 8 so start your shopping at www.boxtops4education.com and Click on the Marketplace tab. You can choose from over 200 merchants and earn cash for Lab school. Once you've registered as a Booster Club member you can start shopping from the Box Tops website & Lab will automatically be credited at no extra cost to you. So start shopping NOW! If you have any questions, please contact at Bobbie Sweitzer.
