Connections is our school’s one and only, not-to-be-missed annual benefit. More than just a fund-raiser, Connections brings parents, faculty, staff, and friends together at a great party, to celebrate while supporting our school at the same time. Connections 2005 – “Reflections of Lab” - will be held at the River East Art Center on Saturday, March 5. Proceeds this year will benefit Lab’s most valuable resource: our teachers. Nothing outshines the dedication and enthusiasm of Lab educators, and Lab’s Professional Development Fund provides opportunities that keep them at the very top of their profession. These are the individuals whom we entrust with our children every day and who in turn enrich students’ lives in countless ways. For this we owe our outstanding Lab faculty an inordinate debt of gratitude and supporting Connections 2005 is a great way to say “thank you.”

There are so many ways to be a part of Connections. You can:
• Buy tickets for a great evening of entertainment, dinner, dancing, and a silent auction
• Bring friends and introduce them to all that Lab has to offer
• Make an additional underwriting gift or help to secure your company’s support
• Invite a special teacher as your family’s guest
• Donate a fabulous auction item – or purchase one at the event
• Buy a raffle ticket. Take a chance – you could be the big winner!
• Volunteer to help at the event. Join our army of volunteers, meet great people and have fun at the same time!

Watch for more information. Visit the Connections home page.

The Middle School and High School Black Students Associations would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Lab Schools community for your donations to Helping Hands to Haiti. The collection was very successful. We collected approximately 925 to 1,000 pounds of food, school supplies, and sports equipment. We also collected money to help with the shipping and we are continuing to receive money. Our joint effort produced:

- Approximately 40 medium to large boxes of food including bottled water
- About 350 complete individual school-supply bags for children plus two large boxes of general supplies that teachers can use
- Five large boxes of sports equipment: shoes, balls, etc.

Your spirit of giving was extraordinary!

Thanks to all who contributed their time and the variety of delicious foods to last month’s holiday potluck social. Held prior to the December PA meeting, this event included a number of "PA meeting first-timers" who enjoyed the festive fare while chit-chatting with friends and members of the Lab faculty and administration.

Parents of first and second grade students, and parents accompanying their third or fourth grade student were treated to an evening of fun and challenging math activities, that were hosted by teams of first, second, third and fourth grade teachers. These “math nights” were held on two evenings, Tuesday November 30th for parents of first and second grade students, and Thursday December 9th for third and fourth grade students and their parents.

Each evening started in Blaine lobby with a pizza dinner provided by the Parents’ Association. The participants then proceeded to various classrooms for a variety of math activities. The participating third and fourth grade students were very excited and enthusiastic about showing their parents what they are working on in class. These students had the opportunity to solve various math puzzles, while parents were able to get a feel for the math curriculum.
