Parents lent there support at this year’s ArtsFest which celebrates art and creativity in the U-high Community, in the capacity as workshop leaders as well help with buying supplies, and setting up the night before the event, in order to make it a great experience for the students.

Parents worked to make the second annual Science Expo fun and informative for the attendees, from being presenters to providing refreshments to set-up to clean-up. The Science Expo was very well attended by parents who might not have had a student presenting, as well as the Lab Schools community.

Louis Baggetto, a Lab school junior, spoke about his experience with the Kurzweil software. He demonstrated the program’s ability to read text aloud, to highlight text as it is being read, and other features. Louis fielded numerous questions from the audience about how he uses the software and what its strengths and weaknesses are. The audience was completely taken with Louis’s confidence and willingness to speak about his experience, and all expressed gratitude for his presentation.

Lab school computer teacher Lucy Gray provided a tour of various technology-based accessibility tools, programs, and operating system (Apple and PC) features and about software that facilitates writing. There was an informal discussions about different assistive technology tools.

Irene Sherr showed a couple of reading-related tools (Franklin speller, “smart” pen) and described how they can be used, and other people shared some tips on resources they have found helpful.

Read more about assistive technology by visiting LD@Lab on the PA web.

Parents enjoyed great food and good conversation at the February PA potluck social. The PA meeting immediately followed the social. Parents heard the presentation of Director Magill and the special presentation from guest speaker Bob Kass, President of the Laboratory Schools Faculty Association, about the role that the Faculty Association plays in the Lab Schools. Mr. Kass answered questions from the parents, and provided interesting anecdotes about parent teacher interactions.

All throughout the school year you've been clipping and saving Box Tops. When our school earns 10¢ for every Box Tops coupon, those earnings add up quickly. We collect the Box Tops, count them, package them and send them to Box Tops for Education twice each year, on October 31 and February 28. A few weeks later, our school receives a check!

Help our school reach its Box Tops earnings' goal this year. Search your cupboards, refrigerator and freezer for all the Box Tops you have in your kitchen. Then send them to school ASAP!

More Ways to Earn: The Box Tops Marketplace , the second easy way to earn cash for our school, is simple to use. For example, you want to shop for new shoes at JCrew.com. Instead of beginning at the JCrew web site, start at the Box Tops Marketplace. Then, select JCrew.com. from the list of Box Tops Marketplace merchants. Another window will appear with JCrew.com. and you shop online as normal. When you make your purchase, JCrew will donate a percentage of your purchase to our school through Box Tops.

As a member of the Box Tops Booster Club, you know all about the great benefits for you and your family. You get our school's earnings information, money-saving coupons for Box Tops brands, great ideas for family activities, chances to win Bonus Box Tops, access to the Box Tops Marketplace and more. Give grandparents, neighbors, family and friends the chance to help our school, too. Tell them about the Box Tops Booster Club!
